One of the most popular wheel upgrade that many Grand National owners make is to go with the black mesh 16″ x 8″ Pontiac Trans Am wheels. Ideally, you need four front Trans Am wheels to fit your Regal properly. In many cases, you can’t buy just four fronts, so you end up buying a pair of fronts and a pair of rear wheel. The rear Trans Am wheels have the wrong offset to fit the rear of the Turbo Regals unless you either install longer studs in the axles and a spacer or simply buy a wheel adapter that already has the studs installed and the proper spacer such as the ones we feature here. The front wheels from a Trans Am fit fine on the front of a 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. In order to make them work on the rear axle, it requires a minimum of a 1″ wheel adapter. You have to use an actual wheel adapter because the factory wheel studs would not be long enough to simply add a 1″ spacer to the axle flange. These billet wheel adapters have the correct bolt pattern and the lug nuts to secure it to the axle flange. You then attach your wheel to the studs using the original Regal lug nuts. These are the proper wheel adapters to accept the rear Trans Am mesh 16″ x 8″ GNX look-a-like wheels for the rear of your 1984-1987 Buick Regal. These adapters are 1-2/16″ thick.
NOTE – Because of variances in the cars and age of the cars, it is advisable to run 245/50s by 16 on the fronts and the backs to be assured of having enough clearance. On 1984, 1985, 1986 models it may be necessary to update the front springs to the 1987 front springs and be certain to have good shocks on the car as well. Both of these items we have available in our catalog. Whatever aftermarket wheel you are considering, keep in mind, ideally you need about 4″ of backside setting for the fronts and rears in order to fit on your 1984-1987 Regal.
